Code mode for supported sections

Use the section Code control when your account has access, understand scoped saves, and avoid confusing it with Shopify theme editing or Custom Scripts.

Code mode is an advanced editor workflow for supported sections. Use it when the visual controls or a focused AI edit are not sufficient and you understand the section’s structure and behavior.

The Code control is shown only when the account has code-editor access. A missing control is not, by itself, an editor loading problem.

Open and edit section code

1. Save a useful checkpoint

   Preserve your current work before making a large code change. Confirm which page, section, and device/editing scope you are working in.

2. Select the supported section

   Select the section and use its Code control when available. Leave Comment mode first.

3. Make a focused change

   Preserve working product bindings, state, events, and actions unless changing them is the explicit goal. Jurni section code is not an arbitrary Shopify theme file or an unrestricted website project.

4. Resolve validation problems and save

   Review any validation errors and use the code-mode save action. The header can show Save 1 change or a count of pending changes.

5. Return to the visual editor

   Exit code mode, inspect the rendered section, and test both device views and the affected shopper interactions. Then check the page’s save/publish state.

Understand the save scope

Saving code changes and publishing a shopper-facing page are different actions. For a Global Section, you may also be editing a shared source with its own save workflow. Confirm the scope before changing a component used by multiple pages.

If you leave with dirty code, pay attention to the editor’s unsaved-change warning. Do not assume closing code mode safely preserved everything.

When Code is disabled

The control can be disabled while already in code mode, while commenting, or in a Global Section editing state that does not support the operation. Finish or exit the active mode before trying another workflow.

If your account does not have code-editor access, use the visual controls, a clearly scoped AI request, or work with the Jurni team. Do not assume a particular role or plan always exposes the control.

Keep code changes safe

Never embed private API secrets or server-only credentials in browser-side section code. Keep vendor snippets in their supported integration path rather than adding duplicate loaders into a section.

Test variants, selling plans, price updates, cart actions, modals, and error states after changes to a Buy Box or another interactive section. A section that renders without a syntax error can still have incorrect commerce behavior.
